VNV (that’s “Victory Not Vengeance”) Nation’s EBM (that’s “electronic body music”) ruminations on the human condition continue with rocking eloquence on the band’s eighth studio album, the new Automatic. The Irish/English duo remains within the boundaries of a relatively cold, emotionless musical style, but recent efforts feature a gentler touch on subtly moving songs and a varied, if not softer, vocal approach. Still, there’s only so much heart one can mesh with a hypnotically robotic genre before reverting back to the usual dance-floor repetitions.
