Wallpaper
Eric Frederic’s one-man dance outfit Wallpaper allows sexuality, humor, sharp R&B hooks, and an homage-like cover of Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison” to all comfortably coexist under the umbrella of irony. The San Francisco resident takes on the satirical persona of Ricky Reed with Wallpaper, which only accentuates the act’s theatricality and shameless sleaziness. Changing a joke’s punch line is never a good idea, and the 2011 #Stupidfacedd EP extended the goofy, kaleidoscopic journey into the heart of the night initiated by 2009’s Doodoo Face. In Frederic’s unending pursuit of fun, no synth sound is too dated, no dance-music texture too trendy (he’s definitely getting his dubstep wobble on with the EP’s title track), and no come-on too tasteless.
