Warpaint
Initially, L.A. lady quartet Warpaint was known more for its drummer, actress Shannyn Sossamon, than for its musical chops. All that changed when acting commitments yanked Sossamon—whose sister, Jenny Lindberg, is the group’s bassist-vocalist—from behind the kit, and Warpaint went on to release its debut EP, Exquisite Corpse. A breakout performance at the 2009 CMJ Music Marathon followed, after which the shoegazer psych-folk group signed to Rough Trade and immediately hunkered down for its full-length debut, 2010’s The Fool. In the wake of that album’s success, the group’s track “Shadows” has been remixed by Neon Lights, and it also contributed a slinky cover of “Ashes To Ashes” to the David Bowie tributeWe Were So Turned On.
