Washed Out
Washed Out, a.k.a. Ernest Greene, makes hazy, downbeat synth-pop that swells with cascading vocals and echoing beats. Making ripples with 2009’s Life Of Leisure EP—the single “Feel It All Around” was the opening theme for the first season of IFC’s Portlandia—the Georgia-based Greene is yet another multi-instrumentalist boy wonder in the micro-genre of chillwave (see: melodic, synthesizer-based pop). But to his credit, Washed Out’s Sub Pop full-length debut, Within And Without, is a nimble, lo-fi and tranced-out effort that brims with the wistful promise of a never-ending summer night.
