We Were Promised Jetpacks
Glaswegians We Were Promised Jetpacks craft tuneful, soaring choruses and invigorating post-punk stabs of guitar that sell angst and introspection equally well. On 2009’s These Four Walls, the band buoyed its more subdued numbers with punchy anthems and slyly evocative lyrics that invite more than a few comparisons to labelmates The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit. Those comparisons won’t end with the band’s latest record, 2011’s In The Pit Of The Stomach. Lead single “Medicine” sounds like it could have been pasted together by Rabbit’s Scott Hutchison after a few triple shot espressos. Jetpacks’ appeal lies in its pop sensibilities, though, and the band excels at using prickly guitar riffs and bouts of intensifying energy to push melodies a little further with each pass.
