Whitey Morgan And The 78's

Flint, Michigan was once a bustling town, full of promise. Now, as everyone saw in Roger & Me, it’s pretty much a town of empty factories without much promise for anything. As a proud Flint native, Whitey Morgan seems severely angered by his city’s collapse. Thus, it isn’t a surprise that Morgan and his band play retro-style honky-tonk country with a “fuck you” attitude and a Johnny Cash style, conjuring images of Whitey all fired up on an old-school Harley. The band’s most recent is its self-titled LP on the Chicago-based Bloodshot Records. Reminiscent of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and “Take This Job And Shove It,” the record is modern outlaw country at its finest.
