Wildbirds And Peacedrums are a Swedish duo whose album The Snake was one of the most brusque, bracing, and unusual albums of 2009. It's brusque, bracing, and unusual in good ways, to be sure—suffused with a sense of wandering that borders on arty jazz while also tweaked and intense enough to invoke Animal Collective in all its minimalist, yelping glory. Singer Mariam Wallentin seethes and coos with deep feeling, and it's amazing what she and partner Andreas Werliin can do with just a drum at their disposal.
