Witch Mountain

Some 20 or 30 years ago, a band named Witch Mountain would never have stood assumed to be anything but metal. Not so much the case today—especially with the rise of genre tags like witch house. So it’s no surprise Portland, Oregon’s Witch Mountain is not new to the game, passing a decree of doom since 1997 in various forms. The band’s current lineup features the sludgy riffs, pits-of-hell bass, and hammering percussion fans have come to expect, but now the effect is well-augmented by the fantastic power of Uta Plotkin, a female frontwoman who’s been lending her fantastically powerful voice to the mix since 2009. With the release of 2012’s Cauldron Of The Wild—only the band’s third album, but its second in two years—Witch Mountain is now well-armed for its first full U.S. tour since 2001.
