World/Inferno Friendship Society

A sprawling punk collective that embraces cabaret and big-band largess, Brooklyn’s World/Inferno Friendship Society made a memorable record in 2007 called Addicted To Bad Ideas: Peter Lorre’s Twentieth Century, which is a fierce and humanizing portrait of the unmistakable character actor. The songs would probably rouse adequately without the band’s stack of horns and keys, but something about them demands an over-the-top treatment anyway. Expect the group to stir up old-cinema romance with the thrill of a ’40s nightclub gone punk.
