Yuck

Yuck

As the new noisy saint of ’90s guitar rock, Yuck owes a great deal to its forerunners: Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, et al. But that doesn’t mean the London-based quartet should be robbed of its praise. Plenty lesser bands have worshipped at the same altar and come away with nothing more than weak tribute, but on the band’s Fat Possum debut—which came out in February and has been re-issued as a deluxe double CD/LP with six bonus tracks—Yuck proves it’s possible to not only channel those old songs, but to update them for fresh ears. Some thrash and clang, some jangle and pop, but all of them rock tremendously.
