ACL Update: Them Crooked Vultures added to Friday's lineup

In the short time that it's existed, hard rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures has operated mostly by stealth, announcing itself with a cryptic website, booking a last-minute Lollapalooza aftershow, and slipping into the support slot for an Arctic Monkeys show at London's Brixton Academy. But it looks like the trio of Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones, and Josh Homme are beginning to work out in the open: They've released their first slate of European tour dates in addition to nabbing a spot on the Austin City Limits Music Festival lineup. The band will be the lead-in to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' headlining set on Friday night of the festival, trampling underfoot any hope that C3 Entertainment might try to inject some more hip-hop into an evening that was originally topped by the Beastie Boys. Them Crooked Vultures will also play a pre-festival "aftershow" on Oct. 1 at Stubb's; tickets for that show go on sale Saturday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m.
