By coyly "leaking" bits of the Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup over the past couple of months, Transmission Entertainment has proven its little festival that could has the power to attract not just recently reunited rock pioneers (like The Jesus Lizard), but recently reunited rock pioneers who nobody thought would ever play a festival (like Death). But now that the festival's full roster of acts has been revealed, Fun Fun Fun Fest's true power is known: It can even make a noted curmudgeon like Glenn Danzig forget that he hates touring long enough to melt the faces of aging metalheads and young punks gathered at Waterloo Park.
Danzig and his eponymous band are tapped to headline the final night of Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009, along with technicolor FFFFest veterans Of Montreal, sketch comedy troupe Whitest Kids U'Know, and previously announced MC Kid Sister. The newly revealed Friday headliners are instrumental rockers Ratatat and hip-hop crew The Pharcyde, who'll round out the evening opposite The Jesus Lizard and Destroyer.
Other artists on this year''s schedule include post-punk noisemakers Mission To Burma, not-so-young-anymore Youth Crew favorites Gorilla Biscuits, boom bap revivalists The Cool Kids, and absurdist stand-up Hannibal Buress. No Age join HEALTH and Mika Miko for a triple bill straight from The Smell, while electronic duo Fuck Buttons makes the members of Fucked Up feel a little better about having their band name blanked-out on festival literature. Rubberneckers will want to keep an eye on Ethan Kath and Alice Glass to make sure the Crystal Castles-dwellers don't exact any "eye for an eye" shenanigans against electro locals Vega. If anything like that does go down, Vega should have plenty of back-up in the form of fellow Austinites Riverboat Gamblers, The Strange Boys, Foot Patrol, The Black And White Years, The Roller, L.A.X., and Astronautilus. The rest of the lineup can be found in the poster image to the left. Mothers, tell your children to walk over to FunFunFunFest.com to snap up early bird weekend passes for only $67.50.
