Having quietly suffered the dual heartbreaks of unrequited love and unfulfilling work on five-plus seasons of The Office, John Krasinski is no stranger to finding amiable solutions to personal tragedy or paths to victory through insurmountable odds. In that sense, he was uniquely qualified to tackle David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, navigating both the wake of the author's unfortunate suicide and Wallace's notoriously complex prose to create a film that's both a credible directorial debut and a worthy tribute, which is no mean feat considering. How did he do it? You may have already heard the story about Krasinski used his first Office check to purchase the rights to Hideous Men, but we're sure he'll have even more tales to share during the film's Alamo Drafthouse première, where Krasinski will participate in a live Q&A after the 7 p.m. screenings and providing an intro for all four shows on Friday and Saturday. Of course, he'll also have to overcome another obstacle: Legions of Office obsessives who just want to talk about his new marriage to Pam, and all without the safety net of a camera for him to smirk at.
