Are you tired of the way fame has become a valueless commodity, priced so cheaply that virtually anyone can afford it? Sick of the way that shamelessness is mistaken for talent, and that attention and accolades are so often bestowed upon the lowest of us, simply because they're the ones who are willing to most egregiously act out? Are you convinced that modern "celebrities" are just common whores, turning tricks on the red carpet for the highest bidder, and turning show business into one big red light district? Do you want in on that action?
The A.V. Club and Transmission Entertainment are looking for tomorrow's flagrant fools today with The A.V. Club's Fame Whores, a showcase of talents both dubious and minor that could make all of your fame-whoring fantasies come true. Whether you're a stand-up comedian working on an act in Esperanto, a juggler who specializes only in used tissues, a profligate belcher who can burp the greater works of F. Scott Fitzgerald, an American Idol reject, a disgraced governor who can spin a fanciful basketball metaphor to get out of any situation, or simply a beautiful young woman who says abominable things about gay marriage with a coy tilt of your head that makes it all okay, we want you to put your meager, unmarketable skills in front of a crowd of people and a panel of celebrity judges. Winners of September's grand finale will win an Instant Fame Whore Package that includes a walk-on spot on the comedy stage of this year's Fun Fun Fun Fest plus two VIP passes, as well as a profile in The A.V. Club. Suddenly everyone in town will know your name, and when they see your face they'll say, "Jesus. What a fame whore." Just like you've always wanted!
