Aesop Rock
Also Playing: Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz and Starving Martyrs and Glitterbillies
-
Fri Dec 4
9 pm,
Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz, Starving Martyrs, and Glitterbillies at Mohawk Patio
Aesop Rock is a major star in the world of independent rap, a flagship act of El-P’s Definitive Jux, arguably the most vital label in the hip-hop underground. Rock’s mindful rhymes stream out at warp speed, with a Shakespearean jester’s mix of self-deprecation and incisive urgency. While fans wait for a proper follow-up to the sci-fi-and-streets stare-down of 2007’s None Shall Pass, Rock has been busy working on other people’s projects, lending stray verses to Themselves and Illogic, scoring a short film by Ace Norton, and producing Slug and Murs’ third team-up as Felt, FELT 3: A Tribute To Rosie Perez. He also teamed up with Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz to deliver Hail Mary Mallon’s punishing “D-Up;” they return the favor here, offering support alongside local crew Starving Martyrs and multi-culti hip-hop cowboys Glitterbillies.
