…And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Dark Meat, An Albatross, Au, Free Moral Agents, and Zechs Marquise at Mohawk Patio
The cover of …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead's The Century Of Self is a hyper-detailed scene drawn entirely in ballpoint pen by co-frontman Conrad Keely—indicative of the arduous and complicated tasks the band set up for itself in making its latest record. Not the least of those tasks: Finally putting a stop to the diminishing returns in the wake of 2002's monumental Source Tags And Codes. Keely and company also set out to learn each of The Century Of Self's epic, multi-part tracks as complete songs, making them sound both alive on record and nigh-deadly in a stage setting, like their rain-soaked set at this year's ACL Festival. Challenging itself to tour with only nine members hopefully won't lessen the impact of Dark Meat's sprawling psych-punk, though Pennsylvania noiseniks An Albatross should make up for any lacking chaos. Opening this Fun Fun Fun aftershow are The Mars Volta's little-brothers-in-prog, Zechs Marquise.
