ATX Converge: Mothfight + Black Cock, La Guerilla, The White White Lights, Missions, Cowabunga Babes, Butcher Bear And Charlie at Mohawk Patio

ATX Converge originated as a meeting of minds between the city’s creative (read: broke) underworld and forward-thinking entrepreneurs, but it’s evolved into an annual pulse-taking of the Austin independent music scene. The previous edition featured White Denim and Black Joe Lewis, who both had a stellar 2009. That bodes well for this year’s monochromatic contenders—the grainy, gossamer art-rock of The White White Lights and the pixilated synth screams of Black Cock—who round out a bill culminating in the eerie, bewitching glitch gospels of headliner Mothfight. Cowabunga Babes brings no-fi primate punk into the mix, Butcher Bear And Charlie turns up the 808 erotica for fans of both knob-twiddling electro and furry fetishism, and the south-of-the-border ska-punk of La Guerrilla and cumbia-inflected cut-ups of Peligrosa All-Star DJs Hobo D and Orion rep for Latinos at this all-inclusive look at what comes next.
