Datarock and Esser at Emo's Jr.
With a love of decades-old dance-rock, Norwegian indie electronic duo Datarock are poppy revivalists in the vein of Of Montreal, except with a heavier leaning toward computer assistance. The group’s 2005 album, Datarock Datarock, is too eclectic to neatly summarize, but imagining Roger Daltrey fronting Talking Heads with songs written by Mark Mothersbaugh might come close. The new Red has much the same energy, including a song whose lyrics are made entirely from Talking Heads titles ("True Stories"). Never losing a sense of silliness, Datarock knows how to funk the crowd with slick production and a cabaret mentality. Opening is UK electropop one-man act Ben Esser, touring behind the charming and offbeat Braveface. To win tickets to this event, email austinpromo@theonion.com
