  • Tue Dec 1 9 pm
Del The Funky Homosapien, Bukue One, Kevin Jack, Zeale, KJ Hines, Crew 54, and DJ Digg at Aces Lounge

Del The Funky Homosapien played a crucial role in the development of West Coast underground rap with 1991’s I Wish My Brother George Was Here, which—though coproduced by his cousin Ice Cube—broke sharply from the sinister gangsta rap dominating airwaves at the time with its goofy humor and laid-back vibe. While his major-label days are gone and his most recent (and biggest) commercial success came via his contributions to Gorillaz’s debut, his Deltron 3030 project landed him on Definitive Jux in 2008. Despite the label’s backing, he’s released two Internet-only albums this year—Funk Man and Automatik Statik, the latter of which can be purchased in a package that includes a conference call with Del himself. He dials up fellow Hieroglyphics Crew member Bukue One here, along with a who’s-who of Austin hip-hop, including Kevin Jack, Zeale, KJ Hines, and Crew 54.
