  • Fri Nov 13 8 pm,
Elvis Perkins In Dearland and A.A. Bondy at The Parish

Despite suffering the unimaginable trauma of losing both his father (famed actor Anthony) and his mother to AIDS and the World Trade Center attacks, respectively, Elvis Perkins’ songs straddle sorrow and joy with equal verve. After debuting with the rather straightforward and strummy Ash Wednesday in 2007, he returned with 2009’s atmosphere-laden Elvis Perkins In Dearland, a soulful album that sweeps the sounds of old New Orleans and assorted other haunted nowheres. With When The Devil’s Loose, former Verbena frontman A.A. Bondy is now onto a second collection of simply accompanied, mostly acoustic music under his own name. The new approach has a spiritual bent, and glows with the aura of old folk songs recast for the 21st century. To win tickets to this event, e-mail austinpromo@theonion.com
