Emmure, Terror, After The Burial, Miss May I, Thick As Blood, and Falsetta at Emo's

Even allowing for the diminished expectations of “deathcore,” Emmure is something of a lowest common denominator. Its latest release, 2009’s Felony, supposedly threads references to Donnie Darko, Kids, Mobb Deep, and its ongoing feud with rival band The Acacia Strain into its surging, misanthropic stew, but in Emmure’s world these are only distractions between breakdowns—and as its current tour, “The Mosh Lives II,” suggests, lyrical subtext takes a backseat when it comes to creating a brutal soundtrack for breaking shit. Not that frontman Frank Palmeri doesn’t try: He occasionally abandons his usual goblin scream for nü-metal rapping, the better to give lines such as “ask your girl what my dick tastes like” (from “R2Deepthroat”) their proper due.
