Fu Manchu, ASG, and It's Casual at Red 7 Lounge

Not since the Ramones has there been a worthwhile band that required such a limited mental capacity to enjoy. Fu Manchu is about sludgy distortions, stomping rhythms, and not much else. The band’s shows follow the same principle, allowing anyone to tune in, turn on, and rock out unpretentiously. Since signing to Century Media for 2007’s We Must Obey, Fu Manchu has gone onto slight commercial success—“Mongoose” from California Crossing was featured in a 2008 Super Bowl ad—and it released its 10th studio album, Signs Of Infinite Power, in 2009. The record is a stylistic plateau for the band, but doing anything other than riffing stoner rock would go against its keep-it-simple philosophy. ASG combines Fu Manchu's propensity for riffs with a metal nerd's taste for technicality, while hardcore duo It's Casual makes like an X-meets-Motörhead hybrid on its recent The New Los Angeles.
