Gil Mantera's Party Dream and Auto Body at Emo's Jr.Imagine if Andrew W.K. got really into Daft Punk. Then, subtract the stupidity implied by such a pairing. Add back half of that stupidity, but only after considering how and why it sounded stupid in the first place. That’s Gil Mantera’s Party Dream, an outrageous group that plays over-the-top synth-rock like it’s the only kind of music that could ever matter. The band’s recent Dreamscape also adds a touch of New Order’s New Romantic sentimentality to the mix. This turn is a bit odd, considering the band’s best known for its tongue-in-cheek live show, which usually finds Mantera jumping around the audience in a thong and/or lighting his pubic hair on fire.Emo's Jr. 603 Red River St, Austin, TX
