Hacienda and Alejandro Escovedo at Continental ClubAlejandro Escovedo has been an object of alt-country worship for ages, and the last few years have found him ripping into his work with the fresh enthusiasm of someone who hasn’t been through half as much trouble. After a bout with hepatitis, Escovedo surged back to work with producer John Cale on 2006’s The Boxing Mirror, lamenting and reflecting, but fiercely so.
