Hawnay Troof, Harlem, Cowabunga Babes, and Pataphysics at Emo's Jr.

Vice Cooler has a lot of famous friends. The XBXRX lead singer, a favorite of the queer-punk crowd, has collaborated with indie luminaries like Erase Errata, Deerhoof, and Stereo Total—which explains how he’s managed to make a viable career out of snarky hip-hop side project Hawnay Troof. Much like Har Mar Superstar, Troof frequently delves into foulmouthed odes like “All I Want Is Yo Dick” while somehow scoring unlikely opening slots for “serious” bands like Rogue Wave, Gossip, and Thurston Moore. (Here his support is the far less serious likes of psych-punks Harlem, trebly slackers Cowabunga Babes, and glitch-poppers Pataphysics.) 2006's politically minded Dollar And The Deed wore thin over the course of 34 (!) songs set to Casio beats and clamoring guitars, but the recent Daggers At The Moon changes things up with circuit-bent BPMs, nitrous oxide crooning, and even a piano ballad.
