10 pm,
The Hidden Cameras and Gentleman Reg at Emo's Jr.
The ornate chamber pop of Canada’s The Hidden Cameras used to be the classy window dressing for a not-so-subtle seediness, mixing church-ready gospel with arch, sexually charged fetishism on songs like “Golden Streams.” (It’s exactly what you think it is.) But while leader Joel Gibb grew bored of the prurient and began focusing on the pretty with 2006’s Awoo, much of the new Origin: Orphan suggests he’s already moved past maturity to midlife crisis: Outside of the cheeky ode to prepubescent sex, “Underage,” the mostly serious Origin is unquestionably for grown-ups—and not in a fun way. Still, Hidden Cameras concerts tend toward the sleazy and outlandish, so it remains to be seen whether it’s totally cleaned up its act. To win tickets to this event, e-mail austinpromo@theonion.com
