The Low Lows, Beautiful Supermachines, Black Before Red, and The Authors at Club de Ville

Recalling a rusty windmill-strewn field bathed in perpetual twilight, the sound of Austin’s The Low Lows is steeped in the same reverb-heavy, Southern Gothic haze of bands like Sparklehorse and My Morning Jacket, albeit with its own jagged, brass-inflected edges. Frontman Mangham Parker has a plaintive-yet-intoxicating way of making regret sound positively lovely, draping his laconic ruminations in a buzzing hornets’ nest of slowly building feedback and gentle thrums of vintage organ, steel guitar, and vibraphone.
