Max Tundra and Deastro at MohawkMohawk 912 Red River St, Austin, TX
Max Tundra is an English electronics whiz (named, less wondrously, Ben Jacobs) who puts together a comely blend of disorienting atmospheres and soothing whispers that coalesce as songs. His 2008 album, Parallax Error Beheads You, plays like a buoyant invitation to a future where post-human music isn’t all that post-human in the end. Enormously promising young electro-rock confessionist Randolph Chabot opens with an expanded Deastro lineup, currently out behind Moondagger, an album full of neon New Order fantasias and heartening appeals to mental and spiritual action (or at least attention). Deastro—as well as Jacobs—can be even more rousing live, which is saying something.
