Paul Mooney and Jimmie Roulette at Capitol City Comedy Club

Paul Mooney spent the first half of his career as a writer (for the likes of Sanford And Son, Saturday Night Live, and In Living Color) and behind-the-scenes man for Richard Pryor, but the “Ask A Black Dude” segments he mastered on Chappelle’s Show come closest to his onstage personality. Never boiling wholly over, Mooney’s rancor simmers under the surface, coming through in harsh, tart language. And it’s not like he lacks for rancor. Austin’s Jimmie Roulette takes a slightly more playful tack to his fast-paced humor, specializing in the everyday silliness of suburbia.
