Prefuse 73 at Aces Lounge
Amorphous producer Prefuse 73, a.k.a. Guillermo Scott Herren, plays the tactile textures of electronic music beneath the boom-bap drive of hip-hop. He was one of the first to do it so competently, and a whole wave of smeary, bleary beat studies have followed in his wake ever since his debut in 2001. The in-demand Herren has kept incredibly busy collaborating with everyone from TV On The Radio to Battles in 2009, and this year’s analog tape-based Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian marks the beginning of an equally prolific, three-album cycle through Herren’s many side projects, including the new Diamond Watch Wrists (featuring Hella’s Zach Hill) and a fourth entry in his jazzy Savath And Salas catalog.
