The Revival Tour 2009: Chuck Ragan + Jim Ward, Frank Turner, Audra Mae, Possessed By Paul James, Jon Snodgrass, Chad Price at Red 7

No matter how many times a rocker goes soft, it’s always a little jarring. But the transition from punk to folk is not all that abrupt considering the genres' shared emphasis on simple songwriting, emotional directness, and activist inclinations. The Revival Tour shows just how far this overlap can carry, featuring an evening's worth of performers who have turned their noisy angst to acoustic emotions in recent years. After doing time in Hot Water Music and At The Drive-In, respectively, Chuck Ragan and Jim Ward both dove into the dusty, low-key roots of folk—and pull it off without ever glancing back. Jon Snodgrass and Chad Price paid their punk dues in Armchair Martian and All before launching ramblin’ outfit Drag The River, while England’s Billy Bragg-indebted troubadour Frank Turner, twangy Oklahoma gal Audra Mae, and backwoods bluesman Possessed By Paul James came by their country cred a little more naturally.
