This Week Ted Leo And The Pharmacists cover Tears For Fears

Ringo Deathstarr, Cowabunga Babes, International Waters, DJ Ramesh Srivastava, and Learning Secrets at Mohawk

If you're going to invoke the backbeat of the world's most popular band and a space station large enough to be mistaken for a moon, you better sound fucking huge. Luckily for Anglophilic Austin quartet Ringo Deathstarr, the sheer heft of the Jazzmaster-shredding on recent single "In Love" could destroy Alderaan and Pepperland. Fans still waiting for an LP's worth of the band's woozy, crackling stylings will have to content themselves with this homecoming show—which is fine, because this stuff's best heard live, loud, and loaded. The romantic streak laced through the band's bigger fireworks is in full blush on Postcard Records acolytes International Waters—though they don't capture the intentional amateurism of Orange Juice as well as Cowabunga Babes' jangly odes to crushes, snacks, and Lydia Lunch. All three come together here for a birthday party thrown in honor of Austin-by-way-of-Brooklyn artist Baseera Khan that also features DJ sets from Learning Secrets and Ramesh Srivastava of Voxtrot.
