A sweet, comely singer-songwriter who embodies the sort of "all-American girl" archetype Paris Hilton’s ilk were thought to have eradicated, Taylor Swift is also nominally a country artist, although there’s very little twang to her style. However, her appeal is limitless: In 2009, her second album, Fearless, smashed sales records and swept up awards from—to name but a few—the Grammys, the Country Music Association awards, and MTV's Music Video Awards (to Kanye West’s chagrin), while Swift ably hosted Saturday Night Live and made her feature-film debut in Valentine’s Day. It remains to be seen how Swift’s meteoric rise (and inevitable maturation) will affect her lovelorn tales of teenage yearning, but for now she’s simply one of music’s brightest stars, in any genre.
