The White Tie Affair, Every Avenue, Stereo Skyline, and Runner Runner at Emo's

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: On its 2008 debut, Walk This Way, The White Tie Affair applies danceable beats to the standard emo-rock template, resulting in instantly disposable audio pap destined to be chewed up as background music for teen-oriented boutiques and MTV reality shows. Oh, and the band hails from Chicago, also home to an influence so obvious it dare not speak its name. (It rhymes with Hall Bout Toy.) While The White Tie Affair is utterly lacking in anything distinctive or original, it does execute dance-emo reasonably well (as do openers Stereo Skyline and Runner Runner), though with so many better options it hardly seems worth the time to listen. Power-pop act Every Avenue suffers similar reality-show-soundtrack blandness, though the Weezer-esque hooks of recent single "Tell Me I'm A Wreck" dig deep enough to suggest it might eventually rise above.
