“Bangers and mash.” To Yanks, it’s a quizzical phrase probably familiar only from old Benny Hill episodes. But on a menu, it’s a telltale sign of an authentic Irish pub (as if the Guinness signs and TVs blaring football—the kind without pads—weren’t enough). B.D. Riley’s was built by hand in Dublin, shipped across the ocean, and assembled in Austin—not the easiest or quickest way, but a surefire way to get it right, and one that captures the pub’s approach to dining. The sausage plate (bangers) sits comfortably along other house specialties like shepherd’s pie, fish-and-chips, and the beer-braised corned beef and cabbage. Like the bar itself, everything seems to take a bit longer to arrive, but the authenticity makes it worth the wait.
