At this corner bohemian coffee shop, poorly dressed slackers with ratty knapsacks and fancy laptops share the patio with well-heeled yuppies, wild-eyed social activists, and finely toned fitness fanatics. Flipnotics is all things to everyone simply because it doesn’t try to be anything to anyone. The variety of food options fuel hours of quality hang time, with quiches and empanadas added to the traditional bagels, scones, and muffins. The sandwiches, tacos, soups, and salads are fine, if unlikely to win culinary awards (although the Chewbacca Chicken Salad and Neptuna sandwiches have their share of diehard fans). Most nights, the outdoor patio plays host to live music, whether it be rockers, folkies, jazz-bos, or sensitive singer-songwriters.
