Perhaps better known as a music venue than a place to dine, Jovita’s nevertheless serves up the kind of plentiful Tex-Mex plates that provide lots of ballast for boot-scooting. Enchiladas take center stage here (covered in ranchero, chili, green, or rich mole sauce), with other south-of-the-border staples like chiles rellenos, chalupas, and carne guisada rounding out the bill. Befitting its heart-of-78704 location, Jovita’s vibe is ramshackle with a touch of funky, and welcoming of large, rowdy groups with its several dining rooms. Thursday nights offer the best introduction: The Cornell Hurd Band has occupied that slot for years, delighting two-steppers and wallflowers alike with its rousing country favorites.
