A.A. Bondy announces fall tour
Jean Alcide
Regardless of talent, perhaps the most entertaining musicians are those who take matters into their own hands, especially when evading formal press releases. Take A.A. Bondy for example, the ex-Verbena frontman turned solo folk artist, who last year released this prosaic gem to announce a tour:
“In bed and on drugs
that’s where i’d been for a week. the result of a memorial day motorcycle
wreck. On my feet now. playing now. eyes open. where did i go?
speeding down back roads. here. there. slat ribbed curs in the shoulder weeds.
Dreams of some actress. A hole in her chin.
New skin now. mostly whole again but with new marks there in silvery pink or purple grey.
that thing was too shiny and new anyhow.
i need to pay down this ER bill.
Load the boat and push off
see it all again
let’s see it all again”
So, to read between the lines on that one: A.A. Bondy needed some cash flow after a motorcycle accident, and so he took his show on the road. Fast forward to this year, when he didn't crash a single motorcyle – that we know of – but is releasing a new album, Believers, out Sept. 13 on Fat Possum Records. Hence this fall's tour, including a Chicago stop Nov. 8 at Lincoln Hall.
