Newswire Andrew Bird documentary premièring at Vancouver International Film Festival

Is this the face of a man "suffering hazards from chasing the ghosts of inspiration"?

Chicago’s hometown indie heartthrob, Andrew Bird, is coming soon to an arthouse theater nowhere near you. For the last year, Bird has been on a marathon tour in support of his latest effort, 2009’s Noble Beast, and filmmaker Xan Aranda was on hand to document the chaotic final months. The resulting film, Fever Year, will première at the Vancouver International Film Festival, which begins Sept. 29 and ends Oct. 14. The film will include scenes from Bird’s final stop on the tour where he performed on crutches, with a fever, while possibly hallucinating like crazy. Pitchfork reports that collaborators and friends, such as Jeremy Ylvisaker, Martin Dosh, and St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, will make guest appearances in the film. Aranda claims on her blog that the film is still morphing, and has been cut down from 37 to 12 songs, with a deepening story line. Apparently Bird must be morphing as well, because Aranda also wonders if the musician is, “suffering hazards from chasing the ghosts of inspiration? Or merely transforming into a different kind of animal ‘perfectly adapted to the music hall?’” There’s no trailer available for the documentary yet, so enjoy this song from Bird’s set of intimate church shows in Chicago last December.
