This abysmal weather (How soon we forget thee, winter!) is supposed to check out this weekend and give way to sunny skies and Chicago's gluttonous summer. Ribfest promises to deliver approximately 65,000 pounds of ribs over 21 hours spread Friday through Sunday. Some of the offerings belie the fest's namesake but offer a break from hot meat: Bon Appetit plans to serve a seafood platter, Olga's follows up with Mexican food, and Quang Noodle Restaurant will have pad Thai. Hickory's BBQ, Cordis Brothers Supper Club, Smoke Daddy, and others will help keep things right with ribs. (Oh, and Delicious Café will be hawking a flesh-free seitan version.) And might we suggest this or this as appropriate attire?
Monday marks Moody's Pub's 50th birthday, and they're rolling back prices on burgers to a measly $1.75. There's a one-discounted-burger-per-customer limit, but those burgers are big, pitchers of beer are cheap, and the beer garden is open. Consider your plans for Monday made.
Then on Wednesday stop by the Green City Market at 9:30 a.m. for Strawberry Fest. Taste Strawberry-themed dishes from a few different chefs as they ring in strawberry season and listen to them talk about how best to store, prepare, and eat the berries. It should help cleanse your palate after all the meatery.
