Behind Alien Queen
The jukebox musical’s creator on his latest film/pop hybrid
Sends shivers down my spine/body's aching all the time
Since 2007, the Scooty & JoJo Show’s Scott Bradley and Jonny Stax have produced and created musical comedies that combine popular film and pop music. Their first big show, Carpenters’ Halloween, an amalgam of John Carpenter’s Halloween and The Carpenters’ music, set the stage for future hybrid shows.
On Dec. 2, Scooty & JoJo will launch their latest musical mash-up, Alien Queen, a cabaret-style spoof of the first two Alien films that’s soundtracked by the music of Queen. The A.V. Club ventured out to Circuit Nightclub for the first dress rehearsal of Alien Queen to speak with Bradley about the omnipresence of jukebox musicals, why the pairing of Alien and Queen is a match made in space, and how puppets are cheaper to use for live performances than union-contracted aliens.
