Between Friends launching anti-domestic violence campaign at Pitchfork Fest

Violent lyrics against women are nothing new in music—Just ask Tyler The Creator. But now the organization Between Friends is stepping up to raise awareness about the pervasiveness and prevalence of violence against women in the media. It’s currently spearheading a campaign to pass out hand fans to sweltering concertgoers at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival.

This descision comes in the wake of Pitchfork’s controversial decision to book Odd Future, a West Coast hip-hop collective with notoriously violent and misogynistic lyrics in its songs, for the festival. Between Friends intends to provide a counterpoint to Odd Future by printing messages about violence against women as well as a list of resources that can help a woman in need. The organization needs monetary donations to help with the printing costs, and it only has seven days left to reach its goal of $1,500. Anti-OFWGKTA-ers, this might be a great place to put your money where your mouths are.
