Brainstorm no longer closing; benefit show organized
Two weeks ago, Wicker Park staple Brainstorm Movies, Comics, & Gaming announced via its MySpace page that it would be closing its doors Oct. 4 due to the recession and would liquidate much of its inventory with a 50-percent-off sale. Well, none of that will happen, turns out. It seems the news shook Brainstorm fans into action. Sean Akins, the store's assistant manager, shared via e-mail that four customers stepped up financially by becoming partial investors, so as it stands now, the store will not close.
Before this news, Akins had organized a benefit show at Subterranean Sept. 6, featuring musical acts who shop at Brainstorm. Tickets are $8 and the lineup features local hip-hop artist Cochise Soulstar as the headliner. The Subterranean show will still go on as planned to further benefit the store.
