Cap'n Jazz reuniting Friday night at Empty Bottle

Cap'n Jazz Cap'n Jazz back before emo became all eyeliner and lame shit, bro.

The A.V. Club has learned that seminal emo outfit Cap'n Jazz is playing a mini reunion set Friday night at the Empty Bottle as part of the Joan Of Arc Don't Mind Control Variety Show. Rumors have circulated for a few weeks now that the seminal Midwestern band was getting back together—even possibly touring—though this show looks to be the extent of it.

The show is inspired by a new album, Joan Of Arc Presents: Don't Mind Control, a compilation of 18 bands that each had a member in Joan Of Arc at some point. The common denominator between Cap'n Jazz and Joan Of Arc is guitarist-vocalist Tim Kinsella who led/leads both. In the 15 years since the band's breakup, Cap'n Jazz has become one of the revered progenitors of second-wave emo, a.k.a. "When emo meant something, maaaaaan."

There's no word on when Cap'n Jazz will play the packed bill Friday night, so arrive early. The show starts at 10 p.m. and costs $10.
