CHIRP gets high for The First Time
Gather ’round and light(en) up with CHIRP Radio’s newest installation of The First Time reading series, happening tonight at Beat Kitchen. Tonight’s theme is “First High” and, although “high” is open to interpretation, expect an onslaught of hazy recollections and bloodshot eyes with readings from a few CHIRP DJs, Jasson Perez of local hip-hop trio BBU, Anna Weber of The Paper Machete, Margaret Hicks of Chicago Elevated, and The A.V. Club’s own Marcus Gilmer. To keep things moving, The First Time’s eponymous live band will be performing covers of the songs mentioned in each reading, so guests can sing along and reflect back on their own delinquency. Or just relax and soak in the music, man—just soak it all in, starting at 8 p.m. for the cheap price of $10.
