Comedian Kumail Nanjiani now proud member of Colbert Nation
Local stand-ups already know this, but here's the sad truth about Chicago: There's no industry here, and thus comics can only go so far before seeking work on either coast. Kumail Nanjiani was one such casualty last year—after a successful run of his one-man show Unpronounceable and countless fantastic sets all over town, the Pakistan-native moved to New York, returning occasionally while on tour with indie-comedy all-stars like Eugene Mirman and Zach Galifianakis. But the reality is, he's gone.
Only, yesterday, Nanjiani wound up on the Colbert Report. And not just for a few lines—like his recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, which, while awesome, was all-too-short—but for an entire five-minute bit with Colbert. Just he and Papa Spoof, together, on national television.
