If there’s one thing the Cubs need, it’s to buy their fans a drink. Trading away Big Z, that whole hundred-year World Series drought thing—those who love the team have really gotten a bum deal. Well, Kerry Wood feels your pain, and in accordance, this round is (sort of) on him.
Wood will be hosting Woody’s Winter Warm-Up at Harry Caray’s Tavern Jan. 13. Players like Marlon Byrd, Starlin Castro, and Ryan Dempster will step behind the bar to serve their fans drinks alongside new figurehead Theo Epstein and Cubs legends Ernie Banks and Rick Sutcliffe, among others.
Music for the evening will be provided by the once-ubiquitous Chicago pop band Plain White T’s with support from William Beckett (former frontman for suburbanites The Academy Is…) and DJ White Shadow. The event’s $150 price tag will benefit the Wood Family Foundation, which raises money for numerous children’s charities—not a bad reason to drop by, if having Mr. Cub mix your drink wasn’t already enough.
