Photographing food is hard work—for proof, just check the walls of your favorite Chinese restaurant. It takes the eye of a real camera wizard to not suck every visually appetizing aspect out of a food photo, and Lou Manna would like to pluck those eyes.
And who is Lou Manna? Why, only a former New York Times (remember newspapers?) staff photographer and the author of the instructional book Digital Food Photography, that’s who. From now until February 16, Manna is accepting shots of “The Best Looking Food Of 2009” for use on the cover of his next book, and he’s promising fabulous prizes for the photog with the Midas shutter touch. Here’s The Manna himself, introducing the contest like it’s an overstocked mattress store in suburban New Jersey:
