Hot tip! Former Lockwood chef James Toland is opening his new restaurant, also named James Toland, this fall in the former May Street Market space in River West.
Toland had previously announced he was opening a restaurant called Gabba Gabba Hey in Logan Square, but apparently those plans fell through. “It was a working title that took on a life of its own in the blogosphere,” Toland says. (Read more of this story later this week on chicago.avclub.com.)
The Chef still plans to feed touring bands, and is offering a 10 percent discount to cooks, wait staff, and bartenders from other restaurants, in an effort to become the go to spot for after-work hangouts.
The restaurant will serve New American food, all sustainably grown or farmed, have a kind of a rock 'n' roll decor, and should open within four to six weeks.
