Newswire Fall Out Boy R.I.P.—maybe

Rumors have been swirling for a few months now that popular Chicago pop-punk outfit Fall Out Boy was breaking up, and they weren't unfounded: Singer-guitarist Patrick Stump has a solo record coming out, drummer Andy Hurley and guitarist Joe Trohman have a new band (The Damned Things), and bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz is busy being a celebrity.

The rumors sounded a lot more solid today. Rocksound.tv reports that Wentz wrote an ominous blog post, saying he "can't predict" if he'll play in the band again, though that may not necessarily be the end:

There is the possibility that FOB will play again with out me or I will be a part of it when everyone is on the same page.

Hurley was slightly more optimistic in a message-board post, though he acknowledged "It's not looking great right now." He says the band plans to take a two to three-year break before deciding one way or the other.

I believe in us, and I believe we will get in a room, hash out the bullshit like in Some Kind Of Monster (haha) and we will be super stoked to do another record. I know all of us are already, but just not at this exact moment.

The big question, of course, is who will step up to be emo's guy-linered punching bag if Fall Out Boy is out of the picture. My Chemical Romance? Panic At The Disco? A Wentz side project to be named later?

UPDATE: Yeah, they sure sound done. Stump tells Spin: "I'm not in Fall Out Boy right now."
